World Water Day 2014 – Be part of the cycle of change

Saturday, 22nd March 2014

Water is an essential resource for survival and good health, but despite advances of the 21st century, 2.5 billion people still don’t have access to adequate sanitation and 768 million people don’t have access to safe water. And as result almost one fifth of the world’s population (approximately 1.2 billion people) reside in communities where water is physically scare, forcing them to seek water from contaminated water sources, including rivers and aquifers. Being exposed to such conditions, the water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns.

Children are reunited with their books, instead of spending several hours in search of polluted water. Aside from supporting communities, Muslim Charity has expanded its operations and is now collaborating with government schools to install safe water facilities, so children retention rates are increased and students can study in a healthy environment and not be prone to waterborne illnesses.Muslim Charity has been extensively assisting the poorest and hardest-to-reach communities around the world. By supporting households with access to safe drinkable water facilities, women are given security and parents can invest their time to activities that can financially assist their households.

Reports reveal that half of the hospital beds in the world are occupied by patients suffering from diseases associated with the lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene. Muslim Charity as well as supporting vulnerable households, also facilitates hospitals with the basic infrastructure to access safe drinking water, which not only benefits hospital patients but the local communities.

Every year the UN designates 22nd March as World Water Day. This is an opportunity for us to raise awareness and advocate the right to water. Today, on World Water Day, Muslim Charity reaffirms its commitments to help transform the lives of more vulnerable communities around the world.

Muslim Charity offers its gratitude to all of our donors for their continuous support.

Pledge your support today and be part of the cycle of change.
