Saving the lives and dignity of mothers suffering from obstetric fistula
Between 2 and 3.5 million women live with obstetric fistula in the poorest places of the world. Fistula causes incontinence; forcing formerly vibrant women to lead lives of shame and despair.
An obstetric fistula is a hole between the vagina and rectum or bladder that is caused by prolonged obstructed labor, leaving a woman incontinent of urine or feces or both.
If a woman survives with fistula, she is likely to be rejected by her husband because of her inability to bear more children and her foul smell. In rural parts of poor countries, she can be shunned by her community and forced to live an isolated existence.
These women suffer profound psychological trauma resulting from their utter loss of status and dignity, in addition to suffering constantly from their physical internal injury. Obstetric fistula is the most devastating and serious of all childbirth injuries. It happens because most mothers in poor countries give birth without any medical help.
Muslim Charity helps by bearing the cost of an obstetric fistula surgery, transportation, medicine and rehabilitation of a woman in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Somalia.
Your donation of £500 will fund a Fistula surgery treatment for one woman, restoring her dignity and changing her life forever.
