Water wells in Somalia
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Muslim Charity has recently constructed four new water wells in Afmadow, Somalia. Before the water wells were complete, the local mothers and women would walk for hours with their children to get clean water for their families. Most of the time they would collect water from unprotected water catchment areas like dams, hand-dug wells and shallow wells. The water was contaminated and dirty since the same dams were also used by livestock.
The water wells generously funded by Muslim Charity UK donors have brought new life to the local communities and have reduced the occurrence of water-borne diseases caused by contaminated water. The shallow wells are strategically located within the community and are easily accessible by the majority of the community members.
One of the beneficiaries, Ahmed Haji Mohamud, commented, “We are very appreciative of the safe water project. My family members and I are now able to easily access water since the shallow well is located very close to my home. Nowadays, we spend less time to fetch water. Previously, the water supply was limited and we could not get enough water for ablution at the mosque. However, after construction of the shallow wells, we are now able to get enough water for ablution. Our hygiene standards and those of our children and village members have also improved. We are thankful to Muslim Charity for the good work they have done in our village.”
