Faith organisations unite to condemn violence in Iraq

Saturday, 23rd August 2014

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The increasing intensity of violence in Iraq and the rate at which it is spreading has prompted 11 organisations with roots in Christian and Muslim faiths to join forces and issue an urgent call for the end of what they called “horrific” suffering in Iraq.

The organisations, including Muslim Charity and the Muslim Charities Forum, decried the gross violation of human rights in the northern and western parts of Iraq, saying they could amount to crimes against humanity.

Dr. Hany El-Banna OBE, Chairman of the Muslim Charities Forum, said the situation in Iraq was deeply concerning. He further added, “the international community needs to respond to this crisis by increasing humanitarian assistance and ensuring the protection of civilians.”

Maroof Pirzada, UK Director of Muslim Charity, said, “All of the people affected by the crisis and in need of humanitarian assistance must be reached without delay. Our faith teaches us the sanctity of human life and basic necessities of life such as water, food and non-food items should be the priority in order to save lives and bring relief to the suffering.”
