Muslim Charity Launches Emergency Appeal for Haiti Earthquake Victims
Dated: January 13th 2010
Muslim Charity has launched an Emergency Appeal for victims of the tragic Earthquake that struck the Haiti Region late last night.
The 7.0-magnitude quake, Haiti's worst in two centuries, struck south of Port-au-Prince, on Tuesday.Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive told news networks that he believed more than 100,000 people had died. The death toll is rising rapidly as workers are arriving at various locations and seeing the real destruction caused.
Muslim Charity received an email - alongside other news and broadcasting corporations - from the US Geological Survey late last night detailing the vastness of the earthquake and Muslim Charity immediately mobilised its Emergency Response Team to tackle the situation and held a emergency meeting to assess the damage of the earthquake and coordinate a organised and effective response.
The real damage caused by the earthquake is soon becoming a reality as the havoc caused is being uncovered slowly.
Haitian President Rene Preval has stated, "Parliament has collapsed. The tax office has collapsed. Schools have collapsed. Hospitals have collapsed"
Urgent donations are required to provide support and assistance to the survivors of the tragic earthquake. Please donate generously:
Donate £500 per Shelter Box - each box can support 10 people
A donation of £200 can provide 5 boxes (to cater for 500 people) of Oral Rehydration Solution. Oral rehydration therapy (also ORT, oral rehydration salts or solutions (ORS) is a simple, cheap, and effective treatment for dehydration associated with diarrhoea, particularly gastroenteritis, such as that caused by cholera or rotavirus. ORT consists of a solution of salts and sugars which is administered orally. It is used around the world, but is most important in the developing world, where it saves millions of children from death due to diarrhoea the second leading cause of death in children under five.
A donation of £2,250 can provide a Trekker Water Purification Unit which purifies 1 gallon / 3.8 litres per minute of safe drinking water from any fresh source such as wells, lakes, ponds, a river or floods.
Muslim Charity has also appealed for urgently required medicine, food packs, blankets and other necessary items.
